Changes to Licensees for Futures Contracts
July 12, 2010 – MSCI announced today that it does not intend to renew the current licensing agreements with the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) for the creation of futures contracts on the MSCI EAFE and MSCI Emerging Markets Indices. The last contracts available for trading on the CME are expected to be the June 2011 expiry.
For clarity, MSCI will maintain its license for futures on MSCI EAFE and MSCI Emerging Markets Indices listed on NYSE Liffe US.
"As a leading provider of benchmark indices to the investment community, we remain committed to license multiple third parties for the creation of indexed financial products and as such we expect to find new areas of cooperation with the CME in the future" said Theodore Niggli, Managing Director at MSCI. "We have chosen to consolidate US based licenses for the MSCI EAFE and MSCI EM Indices so they can serve as the core of the very broad range of MSCI based futures planned on NYSE Liffe US".
