The indices are constructed by aggregating selected Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS®) Sub-Industries: Agricultural Products, Fertilizers & Agricultural Chemicals, Packaged Foods & Meats, and Food Distributors. The indices can serve as a relevant equity benchmark and research tool for institutional investors following an agriculture and food chain investment strategy.

In addition to market capitalization-weighted MSCI Agriculture & Food Chain Indices, sector capped weighted indices are also available. The sector capped weighting scheme applies one-third of the index weight at each Quarterly Index Review to both the Agricultural Products and the Fertilizers & Agricultural Chemicals Sub-Industries. The remaining third is split between the Food Distributors and Packaged Foods & Meats Sub-Industries.

The MSCI Agriculture & Food Indices can be calculated for all MSCI Developed, Emerging and Frontier Markets countries, including the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and the Arabian Markets countries. The MSCI Agriculture & Food Chain Producers Indices are calculated according to the MSCI Global Investable Market Indices Methodology.
