2019 sees a step further on accessing the liberalizing capital markets in China. MSCI, after concluding an extensive global consultation, decides to increase the weight of China A shares in the MSCI Emerging Market Index in three steps. With index inclusion discussions during recent years, China has become the center of the global investors’ agenda on emerging market investing. How will partial inclusion of China A shares in MSCI indexes affect investor portfolios? What insights will help power investment decisions on China? How can investors better access and evaluate this relatively new market place?

Join us at the MSCI China Conference in Hong Kong where MSCI will bring together established industry leaders, research experts, market regulators and top-tier investors from around the globe. In frank exchanges, experts will share their views on the investment opportunities and challenges ahead as China takes an ever-growing portion of the emerging market opportunity set.

CIO Panel 1: Truth and myths about China from a stock picker’s perspective

The China A-shares market has historically exhibited higher volatility with shorter and sharper bull-bear cycles. The dominance of retail investors and higher cross-sectional volatility of the market suggest that an active investment approach to China A shares could be potentially rewarding. How can investors best assess merits and risks in an active China strategy? What are the main considerations in building a robust A shares portfolio?

CIO Panel 3: Is China the new quant playground?

The growing size of China within emerging markets raises the prospect for investors to make portfolio allocations in different ways. The sheer size of the opportunity set, potential market inefficiencies and the lack of comprehensive research coverage provide a potential conducive playground for systematic and quantitative investors. We ask leading quantitative investors for their insights.
