Andy Sparks Joins as New Head of Product Management for Risk Management Analytics

MSCI has appointed Andy Sparks to head the technical product management for the firm's Risk Management Analytics business. Prior to joining MSCI, Andy had been Head of Product Management for the POINT business at Barclays Capital, where he was responsible for product strategy and product execution for the POINT portfolio analytics platform. Andy also held a number of senior level positions at Lehman Brothers, including Head of Mortgage Strategies and Head of US Rate Strategies. Andy will be responsible for driving the product agenda for RiskMetrics RiskManager and BarraOne, MSCI's flagship risk management product suites.

Free Trial of MSCI Alternatively Weighted Indices through FactSet

Many investors are now exploring the use of non-cap weighted indices to capture alternative sources of beta, for potential longer-term risk reduction or returns enhancement. From June through September, MSCI is offering free 30-day trials for select MSCI Alternatively Weighted Indices1 through FactSet. These indices and their constituents are easily accessible through FactSet applications such as Portfolio Analysis and SPAR.

In conjunction with this free trial, MSCI is hosting a webinar on Wednesday, June 29: "Understanding MSCI Alternatively Weighted Indices: From Yesterday's Alpha to Today's Beta". The presentation aims to provide a framework for defining and using alternative indices in a portfolio context.

Annual Market Classification Review

On June 21, 2011, MSCI will be announcing the results of the 2011 Annual Market Classification Review. As announced on May 13, 2011, four MSCI country indices are under review for potential reclassification: the MSCI Korea and MSCI Taiwan Indices for potential reclassification to Developed Markets and the MSCI Qatar and the MSCI United Arab Emirates Indices for potential reclassification to Emerging Markets.
