Climate Change Indexes
MSCI Climate Change Indexes are designed to help institutional investors identify opportunities and minimize risks associated with the transition to a low-carbon economy, enabling them to integrate climate considerations into their investment process. They are built to exceed the minimum requirements of the EU Climate Transition Benchmark.

Helping you build climate resilience in your portfolio
Our indexes are designed to shift focus away from fossil-fuel based companies — and potential stranded assets — and toward companies positioned to benefit from the transition to a greener global economy. They can be used as a standalone index or as an overlay to a sustainability strategy.
We use the MSCI Low Carbon Transition score and category to help interpret the dimensions of low-carbon transition risks and opportunities and compare companies within and across sectors.
We also aim to maintain a broad and diverse universe, limiting exclusions to companies involved in:
- Manufacturing of controversial weapons
- ESG controversies
- Environmental controversies
- Tobacco-related businesses
- Thermal coal extraction and mining
