ESG Integration: Assessing the Effectiveness of ESG Ratings

Institutional investors are becoming increasingly aware of the potential risk and value impact of ESG factors, and their potential effect on the long-term risk and return profile of investment portfolios. Managing investment risk, including ESG risk, has become part of an integrated portfolio construction and management process.

Integrating ESG into the investment process is also the first principle for PRI signatories, and is increasingly being mandated and scrutinized by asset owners who are becoming more focused on ESG.

However, the interpretation and evaluation of ESG issues is highly dependent on the perspective and objective of the user. This is true for corporate ratings and even truer for country ratings.

But what’s really involved in incorporating ESG factors into investment decisions across asset classes? Can equity portfolios achieve superior risk-adjusted returns and better reduce their portfolio’s risk of extremely negative by investing in companies with superior ESG characteristics? And how can ESG criteria provide a useful supplementary analytical tool for sovereign bond analysis?

MSCI ESG Research, Towers Watson, Bank Sarasin and SinCo invite you to a global ESG Leaders Webinar where our industry experts will address these questions and discuss the benefits of integrating ESG factors across asset classes.

The ESG Leaders webinar is hosted by Martina Macpherson, Vice President at MSCI ESG Research, and moderated by Mike Scott, Managing Editor at Carbon Copy Communications Ltd. Speakers include:
