SpaceX's listing offers an interesting side-by-side view of private valuation and public price discovery.
MSCI Private Company Insights data showed the company's estimated secondary market valuation rising from roughly USD 403 billion as of August 1, 2025, to about USD 1.5 trillion as of June 11, 2026, over the year before its IPO. Since listing, public price discovery has been far more dynamic, moving approximately USD 2.1 trillion at the close of its first trading day on June 12, 2026, to about USD 1.74 trillion on August 7, 2026.
As companies stay private longer, a consistent way to measure value across that transition, and to understand how private marks and public prices relate over time, matters more than ever.
