In his dual role as President and Chief Operating Officer (COO), Baer Pettit oversees MSCI’s day-to-day operations and leads the company’s business functions, including product management, research and product development, technology, data services and operations, client coverage, marketing and communications. He has been President since 2017.

In addition to being a longstanding member of MSCI’s Management and Executive committees, Baer has been a member of MSCI’s Board of Directors since January 2023.

Baer has served in a variety of executive-level roles since joining MSCI in 2000, notably as Global Head of Client Coverage from 2001-2012, and Global Head of Product from 2015-2022. Prior to his time at MSCI, Baer worked as Head of EMEA Client Coverage for Bloomberg, and previous to that in equity derivatives at Barclays De Zoete Wedd and Morgan Stanley Asset Management.

Baer holds a Master of Arts in History from Trinity College, Cambridge University and a Master of Science from the Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.
