Who will lead the race to cut carbon?
Click on the interactive map below to see each country's pledge to reduce emissions as part of the Paris Agreement. The map colors represent how ambitious each country’s pledge is, determined by estimating the percentage reduction in 2030 greenhouse gas emissions per capita from each country's business-as-usual (BAU) scenario to its nationally determined contribution (NDC). The bottom bar presents the country's current share of absolute emissions relative to the world.

A key piece of the Paris Agreement was the creation of individualized carbon emission reduction plans for each signatory nation. These Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) are subject to change and updates as each party to the agreement communicates and outlines their intended climate actions for beyond 2020. Each signatory’s ambition, as expressed by the NDCs, may have profound implications for local policy landscapes over the next ten years – be it energy planning, sectoral emissions regulations, or even governmental spending choices.
